In the second of our series of conversations between trusted adults and young people (see the first one here), Springtide is excited to introduce Nima and Fardowsa, sisters in conversation about values and meaning that resonate (or don’t) with young people today. 

In this video, PhD candidate in sociology at Stanford and Springtide Research Advisory Board member Nima Dahir sits down with her younger sister, 20-year-old Fardowsa, a fourth-year at Ohio State and a member of our 2022 SAP Cohort to discuss our 2020 publication, Meaning Making: 8 Values That Drive America’s Newest Generations.  

Their conversation examines which of these 8 values (accountable, inclusive, authentic, welcoming, impactful, relational, growthful, and meaningful) rises to the top in Fardowsa’s life and the ways she seeks to be oriented by these values as a young adult navigating higher education and her next steps amid the pandemic. Together, Nima and Fardowsa offer a picture of a trusted adult engaging a young person to understand the questions they’re asking and the values they’re holding as they pursue a sense of meaning and look to have an impact in their family and community.
